With Apologies to Charlotte You can see in this video I struggled a bit with the lettering in a spider’s web. Then I went back to “Charlotte’s Web”, a personal favorite book, and copied Garth Williams’ design. Worked great I think. The spider is my original rough drawing. I didn’t think I could do better with a redraw. Sometimes illustrations work best the first time. This comic was originally titled “Spider Monday”. Click on the comic to see video. |
Drawing Frog Friday The frogs are super popular on My Mouse Comic. For this comic I used the many frogs (and toads) that live around my house, Apparently some of their skins can cause a high when licked. I think I’ll pass on that one. From news articles I’ve read all that really happens is your tongue grows hair. Yuck. Click on the comic to see video. |
The Mousetrap For this comic it’s probably best readers know who the Aliens are, but it really doesn’t matter. Those little guys are always trying to take over Mouse’s world. Also the trap here faces out to show it better. With Mouse in profile as usual the trap would typically lie flat. Figuring out what the Aliens would say was a challenge, but I like “Greetings”. Superstar Mouse shows his stuff. So fun to learn who this guy really is. When you start a comic you think you know what’s going to happen but you really dont. Mouse has turned out to be quite musical, even if not particularly talented. This comic also loosened up the panel design with the text only “Get out of there!”. Also not something I anticipated but it’s effective. Click on the comic to see video. |
This Painting For once Gerbil isn’t pressing Mouse to exercise, but he’s still a bit of a pain. The gang in My Mouse Comic continue to surprise me with their interests. Modern art? The painting was fun to do, I think it’s pretty good. Maybe I missed my calling. Maybe making paintings that look like somebody vomited on your wall was my real destiny but I got derailed and ended up a cartoonist. Who knows. Click on the comic to see video. |
Playing Guitar This single popped up one evening, as most singles do, after a day of carefully drawing strips. Sometimes I just want to whip off something fun. That’s why the bass guitar Mouse is playing here seems to have too many strings. Nobody noticed, at least no one said anything to me. I believe this was the Mouse’s first foray into music. Not sure he’s any good though. Let’s pretend he’s playing the wonderful music that accompanies this video. Click on the comic to see video. |
